JSC Literacy Summary: My goal is to provide service and co-ordination of existing services for groups "the system" is presenting missing, such as at - risk youth (those who drop out, those who wind up in the court system, adults who can't read/write, parents of young children whose literacy skills are lacking.) I want to be able to purchase a steady supply of children's books for local food banks. When people come in to the food bank I'd like to see them have the option of also recieving a good quality book (or 2 or 3) for their children. This project would link the JSC Education Dept (me), the SERVE office at JSC, the food banks, a local bookstore, and CVABE, a local agency that provides free literacy support for adults who can't read/write well enough to find employment. Possible key words from some list: adult education, school drop outs, families of young children, family literacy ,out of school youth, rural poverty ,21st Century Community Learning Center (Jim Jeffords, federal grant), adult literacy, literacy volunteers, Laubach literacy, Dept of Corrections: literacy education , youth crime, learning disabilities/ADHD, New England Literacy Resource Center, National Institute for Family Literacy, Court Diversion, Probation, Parole
